Clean Collagen® - Type I & III Collagen
There is more collagen in your body than any other form of protein. It is one of the most important building blocks for your body’s tissues and it is everywhere in you!
The word collagen itself, is derived from the Greek word for “glue”. This could not be more appropriate. Collagen is the stuff that holds you together.
There are sixteen different types of collagen in your body, but Types I & III are the most abundant – accounting for over 90% of your collagen. 
Type I & III collagen provide structural support to your skin, teeth, bones, muscles, tendons, ligaments, cartilage, blood vessels and internal organs.

Daily consumption of Type 1 Collagen has been to convey both anti-inflammatory and chondroprotective benefits.  Type 3 collagen best known for hanging around in areas of the body where healing and tissue is under way. It’s thought that this type of collagen acts as a kind of “filler” – helping to bolster & strengthen damaged or weakened areas in other types of collagen. 
Low levels of Type 3 Collagen has been identified as an early warning sign for osteoarthritis. 
Type II Collagen - UC-II®
Type II Collagen is what’s found in the spinal discs, cartilage and all the tissues that cushion and protect your joint surfaces (and allow for freedom of movement).

For mild & moderate cases of osteoarthritis, UC-II was found to be more effective than NSAIDs as a stand alone therapy! 
Stringent laboratory testing has confirmed that UC-II® undenatured Type II collagen resists digestion and retains the 3-dimensional structure it needs to activate the body’s anti-inflammatory and joint protection pathways – which prevent the immune system from breaking down joint cartilage while simultaneously, promoting tissue repair and regeneration. [16,17]
Eighteen separate studies have demonstrated UC-II® decreases pain, improves mobility and functionality on a level comparable to NSAIDs – and it can do all that without the side effects!  By including UC-II® in Joint Shield™ we are able to not only reduce pain and help you move better in the short-term, but prevent further damage and preserve them for a lifetime.
OptiMSM® - Methylsulfonylmethane
MSM has a unique ability to pass into cells and thus to alter what’s going at the cellular and tissue levels. MSM also acts as a “carrier” for other therapeutic agents, which is one of the main reasons MSM had to be included in Joint Shield™. 
Multiple studies have demonstrated that MSM has powerful anti-inflammatory effects in the body. It dampens cytokine expression & has been shown to:

A number of studies have demonstrated that combining MSM with other substances leads to the creation of synergistic compounds which amplifies the effects for the end user. This effect has been demonstrated using Glucosamine, Chonroitin sulphate [31,32,33], with boswellic acid  and with Type II Collagen  with significant and powerful reductions for people with arthritis in both pain & stiffness and improved quality of life.
Bromelain is a group of powerful enzymes that come from the pineapple plant. Bromelain has is highly regarded for its’ medicinal properties and has been in continuous use throughout Central & South America for hundreds of years.
There is a body of literature to support Bromelain’s use for reducing pain & inflammation in the body. It’s proven to be especially valuable for people with osteoarthritis of the knees. Among other things, studies on Bromelain have demonstrated:
- 80% reduction in pain scores – This reduction is pain was sustained at 4 weeks after treatment. 
- Reduced inflammation & soft tissue swelling
- Improved Tissue Quality & Decreased Tenderness
- Increased Mobility & Functionality
- Decreased Stiffness [37,38,39,40,41,42]
A 2016 study showed that giving bromelain to people with arthritis & painful joint swelling resulted in significant reductions – in some cases, complete elimination – of soft tissue swelling. 
Following surgically-induced trauma, 70% patients demonstrated significant reductions in pain & swelling after taking bromelain. 
In the short-term, bromelain has demonstrated that, it is at least as effective as non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs at eliminating knee pain associated with osteoarthritis and that these enzymes could therefore “be considered an effective and safe alternative to NSAIDs” in the treatments of these types of conditions. 
Hyaluronic Acid thick, gooey substance that’s produced naturally inside your body. It’s present, in large amounts, inside of your joints & throughout your connective tissues.
It functions mainly to keep your body’s tissues moist and well-lubricated. Inside of joints, it functions a lot like the motor oil in a car’s engine – providing cushioning & protection for the highly delicate moving parts.
In short, hyaluronic acid is there to make sure that your joints move smoothly and easily.
It may also affect the way your body responds to tissue insult & injury.
Multiple studies have demonstrated that supplemental Hyaluronic Acid can:

When taken orally, it’s been sown to do these things at low doses and with zero side effects! There was never any doubt that we would be adding Hyaluronic Acid to Joint Sheild™ .
Glucosamine is a naturally-occurring sugar molecule found in the synovial fluid that surrounds your joints. Its’ main job is to preserve the integrity and health of your cartilage.  The problem is that with age, the level of glucosamine inside your joints diminishes – this seems to open the door for joint degeneration.
Studies on glucosamine sulphate supplementation have demonstrated that it can:
- Reduce pain
- Decrease Swelling
- Increase Joint Mobility
- Reduce Joint Stiffness
- Improve Physical Function [57,58,59,60,63]
While glucosamine has plenty to offer in the way of short-term advantages, it’s the long-term benefits and this compound’s ability to defend cartilage & preserve joint tissue over time where glucosamine really shines.
There’s a body of research demonstrating glucosamine’s anti-inflammatory affects in the body. Among other things, these studies have shown its’ ability to significantly reduce bio-markers (CRP, PGE, TNFα, IL-1) that are directly linked to both inflammation and the degradation of joint tissue. [61,62]
Studies done on athletes, have demonstrated that glucosamine supplementation can significantly reduce collagen breakdown in joints. [63,64]
A number of other studies have demonstrated that glucosamine can dramatically decrease and may even put a complete stop to, the loss of joint space over time. [65,66]
Two separate studies on glucosamine have demonstrated absolutely massive reductions (over 50%) in the need for knee replacement over an 8-year time period. 
NEM® - Egg Shell Membrane
Egg Shell Membrane is a thin, clear layer of shimmery film that lines the inside of an egg shell. Usually, when we’ve opened an egg, we toss this membrane away (along with shell) and we do it without giving it a second thought.
Now, there’s a growing body of research that this thin membrane contains a host of substances that bolster joint health. It may turn out, that this membrane is as important for our health as all that liquidy goodness in the middle.

Many companies use harsh, highly acidic chemicals to separate the membrane from the egg shell but, with NEM® Eggshell Membrane you don’t have to worry. Chondroitin is a natural substance that’s found in your body’s cartilage and connective tissue. Like hyaluronic acid, it helps these highly moveable tissues retain water to ensure elasticity & smooth motion.
Chondroitin sulphate has been the subject of three very large-scale and extensive reviews, most recently in 2018. All of these studies are in 100% agreement that chondroitin sulphate:
- Significantly reduces pain levels
- Significantly improves functionality in people with osteoarthritis [71,72,73,74]
In addition to improving functionality and decreasing pain, even in people with long-standing pain, chondroitin has another big benefit. Multiple long-term studies have demonstrated that chondroitin may actually halt the progression of degenerative joint disease. As such, it has been classified as a Disease Modifying Osteoarthritis Drug (DMOAD). [75,76,77]
Long-term studies have utilized x-ray to measure the progression of osteoarthritis over years while being treated with chondroitin. In one of these, researchers discovered that taking chondroitin resulted in 32% less joint space narrowing than placebo.  While in 2 other studies, the group taking chondroitin experienced no loss of joint space whatsoever in 2 full years! [75,77]
Reductions in pain are always welcome, but the potential chondroitin has to put a stop to degeneration and help preserve your joints for a lifetime is what makes it so interesting and why it had to be included in Joint Shield™.
Rosehips are the accessory fruit that grows with a species of wild rose that grows in Europe, Northwest Africa and parts of Asia. Rosehips are a nutritional powerhouse and are packed full of vitamins & minerals.
Rose hips have been used for thousands of years to treat a wide variety of ailments. The therapeutic effects attributed to rosehips are thought to be the result of its’ very high concentration of vitamin C.
In fact, eating just one handful of this potent fruit provides your body with the same amount of vitamin C as eating sixty oranges! 
Multiple studies have demonstrated that just 90-120 days of supplementation with rosehips leads to:

In 2008, a group of researchers set out to determine whether or not rosehips were a legitimate treatment option for people suffering pain due to osteoarthritis. When you think of vitamin C deficiency, you typically think of scurvy. But lack of vitamin C has also been directly linked to arthritis/rheumatism 
In fact, research has shown the the vitamin C status of people with rheumatoid arthritis is over 50% lower than healthy controls. .
It’s not surprising to learn that high dose vitamin C has been shown to completely eliminate pain associated with rheumatoid arthritis.
Multiple studies have demonstrated absolutely massive reductions in the incidence of Complex Regional Pain Syndrome in people receiving vitamin C. [85,86,87,88]
Studies have demonstrated that vitamin C supplementation can:
- Significantly Reduce Pain – by as much as 60%
- Decrease Swelling
- Decrease Inflammatory biomarkers
- Increase pain tolerance
- Improve quality of life [89,90,91]
Researchers studying vitamin C as a treatment option for people with pain have observed huge reductions in opioid consumption and way less opioids means way less of the side effects that comes from taking these highly addictive drugs.  With a list of benefits like that, there was no way we could round out Joint Shield™ without including a high-quality, non-GMO vitamin C.
Fulvic & Humic Acid
Joint Shield™ is formulated specifically to get potent nutrients to the interior of the cell and maximize their effects. That’s why we chose to round out the formula with humic and fulvic acid.
These are naturally-occurring substances that are found in healthy soil. They move vital nutrients across the cell membrane and into plants & help create an optimal growing environment.
In soil, humic and fulvic acids work by unlocking critical nutrients, binding to them & making them available for uptake by plants.
